Have anybody called you asking for a procedure to recover a deleted file? Well, if you answered YES, this review if for you. Restoration is a File Recovery Freeware by Brian Kato intended to recover any deleted file in Windows 9x, 2000, XP on FATs or NTFS partitions.
In order to run restoration you must extract ZIP files to a folder and run RESTORATION.EXE. The program does not need to be installed, It can run from a pen-drive or even a floppy disc. Data stored on a hard disk is addressed by pointers used by the operating system to find our files. When a file is deleted O.S. marks a flag indicating that file´s space is free. With Restoration we can unset “free space” flag on file’s space and recover it. Of course, it’d be almost impossible to recover a file if a new one is written on deleted space. Testing In our test, we copied a JPG file to a folder, deleted it and cleaned Recycle Bin. The file was created in D:\pics and its name was flowers.jpg. Then we executed RESTORATION.EXE and after click SEARCH DELETED FILES we found the latest deleted file (Dd2.JPG).
![]() We selected the file, clicked at RESTORE BY COPYING and after a while our erased file was recovered with other name. We just didn’t care about the name issue since WE GOT OUR DELETED FILE BACK!!! That’s why we recommend RESTORATION as a simple and quick File Recovery tool.
